Virat Kohli second Indian to get 1000 runs in calendar year in T20s

During his knock of 14 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, Virat Kohli became only the second Indian cricketer after Suresh Raina to record 1000 runs or more in T20 cricket in a calendar year. After the game against Sunrisers, Kohli’s tally in T20 cricket this year stands at 1006 runs in 19 matches.
Kohli became the 27th cricketer to score 1000 runs more in T20s in a calendar year. Suresh Raina was the first Indian cricketer to achieve the feat in 2010 when  he scored 1042 runs at an average of  47.36 in 29 matches.

What’s unique about Kohli’s record is his batting average of 100.60. The next best batting average in the list of cricketers with most runs in T20s in a calendar year is held by Chris Gayle who scored at an average of 59.46, aggregating 1665 runs in 36 matches in 2015. Gayle’s aggregate of 1665 runs is the most runs scored in T20s in a calendar year.
Kohli has 11 scores of fifty or more in T20s in 2016 and looks good for a few more. The record of most fifty-plus innings in a calendar year is held by Gayle who had 16 in 2012.
Earlier, during World T20, Kohli had become the highest run-getter in T20Is in a calendar year, aggregating 625 runs at an average of 125 in 13 matches in 2016. He beat the previous best of 472 runs held by Martin Guptill of New Zealand in 2012.
Here’s the list of top run-getters in T20s in a calendar year in terms of batting averages.
