Afridi steps down from Pakistan cricket captaincy
Pakistan Cricket Team skipper Shahid Afridi has announced that he will discontinue the captaincy of his T20 cricket side.
He surprised all his fans with a Twitter post that reads, “Today I wish to inform my fans in Pakistan and all over the world that I am relinquishing the captaincy of the T20 Pakistani Team of my volition.” He requests his fans to keep on supporting him because it boosts his enthusiasm for the game.
“For me, it was a great honour to lead my country in all three formats of the game.” He further adds to his post.
Although, he has not announced his retirement from international cricket yet, experts are interpreting that he still wants to continue playing cricket for his country. Last week, Afridi took to Facebook and offered his apology to his countrymen for the dismissal of Pakistan from the T20 World Cup 2016. Besides a hunky-dory against Bangladesh, Boom-Boom could not display big shows throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, Afridi had to go through a tough time as a consequence of getting kicked out of the World Cup. Critics apparently mounted a demand for his retirement from all formats. Moreover, Pakistan Cricket Team manager, Intikhab Alam, threw a big blow to Boom-Boom by terming him as a clueless captain.
Adding fuel to fire, Pakistan head-couch, Waqar Younis, also dug out at him after disastrous exit saying Afridi was frivolous during the practice before games. The former Pakistan cricketer blamed his poor captaincy for the loss in the tournament. This must be noted that Pakistan lost three out of four matches in their World Cup campaign.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief- Shaharyar Khan- welcomed his decision saying “I respect Afridi’s Decision, He demonstrated maturity and sense of responsibility by apologizing to the nation after the World T20,”
